My APA150
« on: October 07, 2021, 07:04:30 PM »
I was using this on a small system and lately the warning light clicks on after a few minutes. I suspect the cooling fan is not working ( I can't hear or feel any air out the back ). Is it worth while to replace the fan? I checked all cable wires and lead interconnects. Who would carry this cooling fan?

Hey Mr. V, I'd probably start with the Parts Express guys for help.  Also, make sure the receptacle you are using has a proper ground (I'm assuming the amp has the typical 3-prong plug).  I almost toasted a little subwoofer amp using a "cheater" plug.  Its auto-on function didn't like that and the class ab amp got really hot very quickly.

Anyway, if you can pull that fan and get the specs, it should be an easy fix.

Henry, thanks for your help. I reviewed al my connections and the amp still cuts out after several minutes of use, however the cooling fan is working. I suspect a circuit issue now. Maybe I sould just get another Crown Amp. I am not sure the amp is currently worth fixing. I got it when I originally bought my Horn speakers along with the Cube. This must have been 8 to 10 years ago. The other Crown amp is on  the Cube (it replaced the above APA150.

Hey Victor, if the amp does what you want then get another... Parts Express sells them on sale for 150 bucks every now and again...They were much more than that when they first came out!

Yep, even at $210 it's hard to beat with the features.  I especially like the form.

That looks like a nice amp. It seems it does sum to mono which is fine. I think it would probably better for sub use just not as versatile as the APA.
